Social Events

We are fortunate in having a wide range of visits outside our regular activities. Our Social Secretary organises typically four to six trips a year, mainly for members,  and others for members with partners or guests.

Recent examples include visits to:

RAF Valley, Anglesey                              Airbus Factory, Broughton

Morgan Cars, Malvern                            Toyota Engine Factory, Deeside

Daresbury Laboratory, Warrington          Cammel-Laird Shipyard, Birkenhead

Chester Canal Lunch Cruise.                  RNLI, Hoylake.

In addition there is the members' Christmas Party with organised entertainment and refreshments, and block bookings for members and partners to attend popular shows such as those offered by the Birkenhead Operatic Society.

Ladies Lunch

A most important social event in the Club's calender is the annual lunch for members and partners. This is held in October and provides a venue, a three-course meal, followed by entertainment or a contribution from a special guest speaker.  In recent years the Ladies Lunch has been held at the Thornton Hall Hotel or Caldy Golf Club.

Quiz Nights

A night out at suitable locations, currently Heswall Golf Club, is a no-brainer for some of our members. The excuse of a quiz competition is reasonably convincing, particularly as the quizmasters promise 'no questions on pop music from the 1990's' onwards..

On four evenings in the winter months we compete with an opposing team of like-minded and friendly competitors from our neighbours, Heswall Probus Club. These are always enjoyable evenings and fights rarely break out. The refreshments and companionship are more important than the actual questions - and in many cases both sides get the answers right!  There are no fixed teams and plenty of room for those interested to join in.
